Can Welbeck replicate the success of Liverpool star Sturridge at Arsenal?

Arsenal completed a deadline day swoop for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck – but the deal was met with a mixed response.
The 23-year-old had found himself pushed down the pecking order at Old Trafford, with Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney the first choice striking duo for the Red Devils in recent years. The addition of Falcao only served to show that Welbeck wouldn't be getting much first-team football this season under new manager Louis van Gaal, and a loan move to Tottenham had been mooted.
However, England international Welbeck has finalised a shock £16m move to Premier League rivals Arsenal, where he will surely be the Gunners' first choice centre forward in the absence of Frenchman Olivier Giroud, who could be out until 2015 with a broken ankle.
Upon his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, some Arsenal fans were concerned that Welbeck wasn't the man to improve their attack given his record of just 34 goals in 150 games for United, though many others did appreciate Welbeck's athletic ability and fantastic work rate.
In fact, the situation can be somewhat compared to when Daniel Sturridge left Chelsea for Liverpool in January 2013. Sturridge had been playing for a title challenger but rather than being given the chance to play as a centre forward for the Blues, he was pushed out wide - as Welbeck has been regularly at United.
Just 15 goals in 55 games made people question Liverpool's decision to fork out £12m to bring Sturridge to Anfield, but the chance to play up front on a regular basis, Sturridge has hit 36 goals in 52 games to establish himself as England's top striker.
Welbeck will now get the same opportunity as Sturridge - to play as a centre forward. If he can replicate what Sturridge has achieved, then Arsenal's move to sign Welbeck will be completely justified.

Is Danny Welbeck Arsenal’s Answer?

Danny Welbeck completed a £16million move from Manchester United to Arsenal yesterday in order to bolster the Gunners attacking options. However, is Danny Welbeck the solution for the misfiring Gunners?

The 23-year-old has a wealth of top flight and international experience, including 26 international caps, a Premier League title, a League cup, a Community Shield and a World Club Challenge. But this was all with the Old Trafford outfit under the infamous reign of footballs greatest manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Gunners are a different animal altogether, a side that up until last season’s FA Cup final win against Hull City had endured a nine season trophy drought. Arsenal’s attacking options are well documented and well, limited to be truthful. Even with a fully-fit Olivier Giroud, who scored 23 goals for the club last campaign, they still lack the cutting edge in attack that sets Manchester City and now Chelsea, following their capture of Diego Costa, apart at the Premier League summit.

No questions about it Welbeck is a promising player and can provide Arsenal with both a hard work ethic on and off the ball, but a player that has the ability to turn a defence by running in behind, something Giroud rarely does.

Similarly, the striker who lives and breaths Manchester United, joins a key core of English players that Arsene Wenger has to his repertoire. New additions Welbeck and Calum Chambers add to the likes of Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere Alex Oxlade-Chamberlian and Kieran Gibbs.

However, looking around their Premier League rivals attacking options, even following Alvaro Negredo’s loan move to Valencia, Manchester City still boast Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko. Similarly, across the red side of the city, United have Rooney, Van Persie and now Radamel Falcao.

Even Liverpool without the controversial Luis Suarez still have greater attacking options than the Gunners.

For me, Arsenal have nowhere near enough fire power to be up with the big boys come May. Of course the side do have a wealth of midfield talent made up of Santi Carzola, Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and so on, but as history has shown it is almost impossible to win the league without a striker who is going to contribute with 15-20 goals a season.

Don’t get me wrong the Gunners have Walcott to come back into the side following a lengthy lay-off, but I still believe they’ve missed a trick with Falcao and even Remy for that matter. The gunners need proven true goalscorer and unfortunately Welbeck doesn’t fall into this category.

He’s a typical Arsenal and Arsene Wenger signing. He’s young, quick, works hard for the team and will chip in with the odd goal and outstanding performance. But shouldn’t Arsenal be looking for more than another fourth-placed finish?  If they’re serious about challenging for the title they need to add a world class forward-and a defensive player whilst you’re at it-to their ranks.

But who can tell? After all Liverpool signed Danny Sturridge from Chelsea where he predominantly played on the wing and gave him a run of games in the middle of the park and now look at him.

With Giroud sidelined until January, Welbeck will get a long run of games to show off his best. Lets hope he doesn’t dissapoint.

Welbeck is a "very good signing" for Arsenal

Michael Owen believes Danny Welbeck will suit Arsenal after the striker moved to north London from Manchester United.

The 23-year-old England international penned a long-term deal with the Gunners after Arsenal agreed a £16m fee with the Red Devils on transfer deadline day.
Welbeck had fallen out-of-favour at Old Trafford over the past season and Radamel Falcao’s loan inevitably resulted in the forward leaving 20-time English champions.
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger had been looking to bolster his attacking line-up over the past week after Olivier Giroud was sidelined for three to four months with a broken foot.
And former United striker Owen believes Welbeck will prove to be a “very good addition” to Arsenal’s squad and is confident the England star can prove a success if played as a striker.
Arsenal have pulled off a very good signing in Welbeck. He’s young, English, fast and someone who Wenger can get more out of,” Owen posted on Twitter.
“People talk about a lack of goals but he’s hardly played as a striker at United. He will suit Arsenal.”
Welbeck scored 20 goals in 92 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils.

[Confirmed] Arsenal Complete £16m Deal for Striker

After a frantic transfer deadline day, Arsenal have announced that a deal for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has been completed for a fee reportedly around £16 million. The move has been delayed until the completion of Radamel Falcao’s big-money move to United from AS MonacoArsène Wenger’s pursuit of the England international increased after Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud suffered a broken foot, which will keep him sidelined until the start of the new year. And with Giroud’s understudy, Yaya Sanogo, yet to score a competitive goal for the club, fans will be relieved that Wenger has sought out reinforcements – particularly in the shape of a striker with Premier League experience.
Despite falling down the pecking order at United, Welbeck appears to be an astute signing by Wenger. Last season, the 23-year-old ranked fourth in the Premier League in goals per 90 minutes played, behind only Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Agüero. And while Welbeck has been much maligned by fans and pundits alike for scoring only 9 times in 25 appearanceslast season, his statistics appear better when one considers that he only started in ten matches. But despite this, Welbeck’s signing has been met with a tinge of disappointment, particularly after a summer where the club was linked with higher profile strikers such as Mario Balotelli, Loïc Remy, and Edinson Cavani. That being said, the Manchester product brings pace, versatility, and experience despite his age, along with adding to the growing core of young British players in Arsenal’s ranks.
Welbeck will be Arsenal’s fifth signing of the summer, following Alexis Sánchez, David Ospina, Mathieu Debuchy, and Calum Chambers to the Emirates Stadium. However, fans will be frustrated that Welbeck is the only signing made after the start of the Premier League campaign, where Arsenal have failed to impress thus far.

Arsenal's Miyaichi joins FC Twente on loan

Arsenal's Japan midfielder Ryo Miyaichi joined Dutch side FC Twente on loan for the rest of the season on Monday. Miyaichi has made only six appearances for Arsenal since joining the English Premier League club in January 2011 and his move to Twente will be the fourth loan spell of his Gunners career.
"Ryo Miyaichi has joined Dutch side FC Twente on loan for the 2014-15 season," a statement on Arsenal's website announced. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Ryo the best of luck during his loan with FC Twente."
The 21-year-old, who has two caps for Japan, was loaned out to Dutch team Feyenoord in 2011 and then spent the second half of the 2011/12 season with Bolton.
He was on loan at Wigan Athletic for the whole of the 2012/13 season, but made only a handful of appearances due to injury. Miyaichi made his UEFA Champions League bow in the 2-0 play-off victory over Fenerbahce at Emirates Stadium last season and added to that with his first and only Premier League appearance in an Arsenal shirt soon after, playing the final 17 minutes of a 3-1 win against Stoke City.

Arsenal AGREE £16m deal for Man United star Danny Welbeck

The Manchester United striker, 23, has undergone a medical at the Gunners and is poised to complete his switch before the transfer window shuts at 11pm, according to the BBC.
Gunners legend Alan Smith has claimed Welbeck is a huge fan of Arsenal and was after a move following Radamel Falcao's arrival.
He said: "Arsenal were the only club Danny wanted to go.
"Man United weren't keen to sell to a rival which you can understand.
"Signing on a permanent deal is important. He's only young still and he's got his best years to come."

Medical On Going At Arsenal – A Signing Finally On The Way?

Arsenal are close to signing Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on loan according to reports coming to light. They were little noises coming out initially about Arsenal’s potential move for the 23 year old earlier today, but it seems that the English striker could be about to swoop Old Trafford for the Emirates.
It was widely believed that Arsene Wenger would look to bring in a striker with a reputation for scoring goals particularly after the club’s top scorer from last season Oliver Giroud got injured. And he was ruled out until the New Year at the earliest.
This particular news of the Danny Welbeck deal is coming on the back of the heels of the high of being linked to the likes of Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani and the newly signed Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao this summer.
The English striker Danny Welbeck struggled under David Moyes last season as he barely got on the score sheet. However, he was told last month by Louis Van Gaal that he is free to leave Manchester United.
The Danny Welbeck loan move is apparently Arsenal entering a panic mode as the transfer window enters it final hours. Already there are media claims that the player does not want a loan move but is seeking for a permanent deal to Arsenal.
Although he has the pace and work ethics to trouble defences, he obviously lacks the key touch of a consistent goal scorer, and was used mostly as a roving midfielder to mark out players during Alex Ferguson’s time at Old Trafford.
He is not what Arsenal needs, as the club already have enough strikers who struggle in front of goal already, ala Yaya Sanogo. Whether Arsene Wenger thinks he can iron out his short comings remains to be seen.
It is a shame that Arsenal are going from the high of signing Mesut Ozil last summer, to a potential low of signing a Manchester United reject.
Arsenal needed a signing that could lift the club for the tough battles ahead this season as the Ozil effect had on the club, but going by what is going on between now and when the transfer window shuts in few hours, it is yet a grim situation once again.
For all intent and purpose, the club is better off giving Joel Campbell a chance as he has the experience of playing in the Champions League and World Cup consistently. Instead of Danny Welbeck that has lost count of where the goal is.
It is yet another disappointing window from an Arsenal point of view as holes in squad have not been filled.
